Our History

Since the 1960s, Nutt Hill has brought families together to embrace the joy of winter. With lights for night skiing, a rope tow system, and dedicated snowmaking equipment, it became a vibrant community space for sledding, skiing, and snowboarding. Now, local efforts are revitalizing the hill for future generations to enjoy.

Honoring the Long History of Nutt Hill

1946

Where it all began

Have you ever wondered why it's called "Nutt" Hill?

In 1946, Dr. and Mrs. Nutt acquired the beautiful property Nutt Hill sits upon today.

1962

Nutt Hill is established through community efforts

Upon their death, Dr. and Mrs. Nutt, willed the property to Mrs. Fred Stienecker who then donated the property to the city of Plymouth. The community worked together to lobby council members to get the park up and running for winter sports enthusiasts to enjoy.

1969

Upgrades to the park

In 1969, snow-making equipment was purchased by the City of Plymouth to help keep the hill in operation at times when not enough natural snow had fallen. A snowmobile was also purchased so that the snow could be flattened and groomed.

2014

Hard Times

After decades of winter use, the hill became inoperable and fell out of regular operation.

2025

Back to life

Through community partnerships and funding, Nutt Hill is set to reopen for tubing, skiing, and snowboarding on December 16, 2025!

We are pleased to honor the many community members who have contributed to Nutt Hill since 1962.

Revitalizing Nutt Hill

Cheese Capital Winter Park Inc., a nonprofit formed by local community members, is working to restore Nutt Hill into a fully functioning winter destination. Plans include infrastructure upgrades, grooming and snowmaking improvements, and the addition of a conveyor lift to enhance accessibility. Nutt Hill will be open for tubing, skiing, and snowboarding in the winter of 2025.

Snowmaking & Grooming Equipment

Purchased in 1969, Nutt Hill’s snowmaking equipment ensured the hill could stay open even during mild winters. In 2025, state-of-the-art snowmaking equipment was installed. The new equipment includes a new pump station, new piping, new hookups for two portable snow makers, and a new fixed snow maker on the tubing hill. Nutt Hill has purchased a Pistenbully 100 to make sure the hill is groomed to perfection.

Building Upgrade Enhancements

The hill’s original warming lodge served generations of skiers and sledders with simplicity and charm. As part of the restoration, the facility has been thoughtfully upgraded to improve comfort, functionality, and accessibility—while still preserving its community-first feel. An additional building was added to provide visitors with additional amenities.

Land Changes & Modifications

To support safer navigation and improved snow coverage, select terrain adjustments have been made throughout the hill. These changes enhance flow for both beginner and intermediate users, while keeping the natural character of the landscape intact. A new run was added for skiing and snowboarding in 2025.

Automatic Conveyer Lift

Replacing the old rope tow, the new automatic conveyor lift offers a safer, easier way for riders to return to the top of the hill. Ideal for tubers and beginners, it reduces wait times and helps make every run more enjoyable.
