Our History
Since the 1960s, Nutt Hill has brought families together to embrace the joy of winter. With lights for night skiing, a rope tow system, and dedicated snowmaking equipment, it became a vibrant community space for sledding, skiing, and snowboarding. Now, local efforts are revitalizing the hill for future generations to enjoy.
Honoring the Long History of Nutt Hill

1946
Where it all began
Have you ever wondered why it's called "Nutt" Hill?
In 1946, Dr. and Mrs. Nutt acquired the beautiful property Nutt Hill sits upon today.

1962
Nutt Hill is established through community efforts
Upon their death, Dr. and Mrs. Nutt, willed the property to Mrs. Fred Stienecker who then donated the property to the city of Plymouth. The community worked together to lobby council members to get the park up and running for winter sports enthusiasts to enjoy.

1969
Upgrades to the park
In 1969, snow-making equipment was purchased by the City of Plymouth to help keep the hill in operation at times when not enough natural snow had fallen. A snowmobile was also purchased so that the snow could be flattened and groomed.

2014
Hard Times
After decades of winter use, the hill became inoperable and fell out of regular operation.

2025
Back to life
Through community partnerships and funding, Nutt Hill is set to reopen for tubing, skiing, and snowboarding on December 16, 2025!
We are pleased to honor the many community members who have contributed to Nutt Hill since 1962.
Revitalizing Nutt Hill
Cheese Capital Winter Park Inc., a nonprofit formed by local community members, is working to restore Nutt Hill into a fully functioning winter destination. Plans include infrastructure upgrades, grooming and snowmaking improvements, and the addition of a conveyor lift to enhance accessibility. Nutt Hill will be open for tubing, skiing, and snowboarding in the winter of 2025.
